Support for Haiti
January 12, 2010: A magnitude 7.0 earthquake has struck near the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. The International Health Office is creating a list of local organizations offering support.

4 Metro Hotels: Support Shoes for Souls
People can drop off flat shoes at the Radisson Suite Hotel Halifax on Hollis Street, the Super 8 Dartmouth on King Street, the Holiday Inn Express on Kearney Lake Road and the Best Western Chocolate Lake on St. Margarets Bay Road.
People donating shoes at the hotels will be entered in a draw for prizes such as hotel room certificates.

Halifax for Haiti: Benefit Concert
The Halifax for Haiti benefit concert featuring Halifax-based DRUM! and an array of the region’s finest artists is confirmed for the Halifax Metro Centre, Monday, February 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Joining DRUM!, the line-up now includes: Anna Ludlow, Bruce Guthro, Charlie A’Court, Christina Martin, Classified, Joel Plaskett, Lennie Gallant, Linda Carvery, Nova Scotia Mass Choir, Rhapsody Quintet, Scott Macmillan, Sung Ha Shin-Bouey, The Stanfields and Thom Swift.

Support for Haiti: Salutary Angels
Salutary Angels is an organization that delivers prenatal and postnatal care at the doorstep of less privileged women in rural Haiti. Salutary Angels is currently collecting donations of canned food, clothing, bottled water, medical supplies etc. to be sent to Haiti. Salutary Angels is also accepting cash donations to support earthquake relief efforts. Any assistance that can be given will be greatly appreciated.

Women's Walk for Haiti: International Women's Day
Saturday March 6th 2010 at 10 a.m
Volunteers needed.
The public is invited for a 1 km walk to model the daily routine of mothers in rural Haiti by wearing a make-shift pregnant belly (balloon) and carrying a basket on top of their heads. At the end of this walk, enjoy cake and refreshments for International Women's Day celebration.
Walk Route: start the from Spring Garden and Barrington, walk along Barrington to Inglis, Inglis to Young Ave, Young to SMU. |

The Humanitarian Coalition: CARE Canada
After the Tsunami, the Humanitarian Coalition was formed by Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, Save the Children and Care, to better coordinate fundraising and humanitarian relief delivery in emergencies. That is another option for people who want to support Haiti Relief efforts. Oxfam Quebec has been working in Haiti since 1983 and have 3 Canadian staff and 40 local staff located there.

Salvation Army
The Salvation Army has started a Haiti Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund with an Online donation form.
Text Message Campaign
Donors can text the world “HAITI” to 45678 from any Rogers Wireless or Bell Mobility phone to contribute $5.00 to The Salvation Army.
Standard text messaging rates will apply. Depending on the donor’s phone plan, they may be charged a nominal fee to send or receive text messages
One-hundred percent of each donation will go to The Salvation Army to serve this vital need. After texting ‘Haiti’ to 45678, we will receive a message asking you for approval of the donation. Simple reply back with ‘Yes’ and the donation will do through. Donors can unsubscribe at any time by replying to the message or texting the word ‘STOP’ to 45678. |
